Birmingham's busiest roads, one step at a time

Birmingham asks a lot of a new driver: multi-lane junctions, bus lanes, trams and heavy traffic. We explain each junction before you drive it.

  1. 1

    Start on quieter streets

Residential roads in Edgbaston and Aston, where you learn moving off, junctions and manoeuvres without the pressure of heavy traffic.

  2. 2

    Take on the city

Five Ways island and Hagley Road (A456) through Edgbaston, plus bus lanes and their operating times.

  3. 3

    Handle the big roads

The A4540 Middleway ring road, the A38 and Queensway tunnels, and tram lines with tram priority on Broad Street.

Driving Lessons in Birmingham FAQs

1. Which parts of Birmingham do you cover?

We give lessons in Birmingham, including Aston and Edgbaston, and on the Black Country side of the city around Smethwick and Oldbury. Call us to check your postcode.

2. Do I need to pass my theory test before an intensive course?

Yes, ideally. Intensive courses run over one or two weeks, so your theory test should be passed before the course starts. If you have not passed it yet, it must at least be booked before we can confirm your course.

3. Can I learn with a female instructor in Birmingham?

Yes. If you would feel more comfortable being taught by a female driving instructor, including in an automatic car, tell us when you book.

4. Which intensive course length is right for me?

Complete beginners usually need the 40-hour course. If you have already had lessons you may need less, and if you have failed a test before, our 10-hour course works as a remedy and re-sit. We assess you first and advise honestly.
